Hive Slack

One message away from 2500+ animal advocates

Hexagon

The Hive Community was originally launched to fill a gap: the animal advocacy movement lacked a global, inclusive, and interactive space where contributors could easily share knowledge, find opportunities, and have in-depth discussions.

A community that lives in Slack

We chose to host on Slack, a popular digital workplace platform commonly used by businesses and organizations. Our goal is to create an atmosphere that promotes meaningful collaboration and coordination among advocates, as if we were all part of one strong, unified organization. We believe this can substantially bolster the effectiveness and growth of the movement.

Benefits of the platform Slack

Our members have found value in many of the features, including the ability to send direct messages, meet other advocates for one-on-one virtual coffee chats, create specialized channels, and integrate time-saving automations.

  • 2500+ Slack Members
  • 500+ average weekly active members
  • 30+ advocates meeting every 3 weeks for 1:1 chats
  • 32,000 messages were sent on Slack in 2023
  • 90+ public channels

Recent improvements

We’ve been building out the Slack infrastructure to continue to serve our community with decision-relevant information. To do this, we’ve created a serious of Slack feed bots:

  • Jobs bot: To help you find the latest opportunities in one place, this bot filters through 4 different job boards and automatically posts new listings each day in the Slack jobs channel.
  • Forums bot: To help you stay updated, our latest automation relays new animal advocacy-related FAST Forum and EA Forum posts to our news & updates channel. This posts every Sunday.
  • Events bot: To help you remain engaged, we’ve partnered with Connect for Animals to automate event postings. Each week, this bot will share virtual events in our online events channel, as well as regional events in select city hub channels.
